Embedding Widgets in Approver.com Documents
Many Web sites provide access to their functionality through the use of widgets. A web widget is a piece of HTML code that you can copy and paste into another application.
You can use widgets from other web sites inside Approver.com documents. To do this:
- Copy the widget code from its web site
- Create an Approver.com document
- Click on the Source button in the Approver.com in-browser editor (pictured at right)
- Paste the widget code into the editor
- After you've pasted your widget into the editor, click on the Source button again to go back to normal visual editing
Approver.com users have had success using widgets provided by these sites:
Below we've provided specific instructions on how to use widgets from various sites in Approver.com documents.
YouTube
YouTube provides an embed link next to each of its videos. Copying and pasting the embed link into an Approver.com document gives you the ability to share the video with colleagues, receive alerts when others have viewed the video, and create comments on the video -- just like a normal Approver.com document.
Revver
Revver is a video-sharing site similar to YouTube. You can upload videos to Revver and send them to others to view. Unlike YouTube, Revver automatically adds advertisements to your videos and pays you a portion of the revenue generated from the advertisements that are shown with your video.
You can embed a Revver video in an Approver.com document. To do this, go to the web page that contains a Revver video, then click on the button labeled "Grab code". Copy the embed code for the video, then paste it into the source view of an Approver.com document.
Box.net
Box.net gives you the ability to upload multiple files into a folder on Box.net, make the folder publicly accessible, then share the files in the form of an embeddable widget. You can embed Box.net widgets in an Approver.com document. This is ideal for when you need to share more than one file in a single Approver.com document, when you need to share file types that aren't supported by Approver.com (such as ZIP files or MP3s), or when you need to share very large files. The easiest way to create a Box.net widget is to use the
Box.net Sharing Wizard.
30Boxes
The online calendaring site 30Boxes provides a number of widgets that enable you to share information from your calendar. If you're a 30Boxes user, you can copy 30Boxes widget code into an Approver.com document using these steps:
- Go to your 30Boxes Settings page
- Click on the Sharing link
- Copy the code for one of the widgets provided (the "Flash Buddy Card" works particularly well in an Approver.com document)
- Create an Approver.com document and paste in the code per the instructions above
Zoho Show
Zoho Show enables you to create slide presentations online. You can embed a Zoho Show presentation into an Approver.com document. To do this:
- Create a presentation in Zoho Show
- Click on the Actions link at the top of the page
- From the menu, select Embed Slideshow
- Copy the code from the box labeled "Embed Slideshow" into the Source view of an Approver.com document per the instructions above.
