Approver.com Is More Secure Than Email

Approver.com is intended to replace the most common method of online document-sharing in use today, which is the email attachment. Using email for document-sharing not only provides a less-than-optimal user experience, email's security characteristics leave something to be desired.

This is because of the way email is delivered. When you send email, your message is forwarded to your corporation's or internet service provider's email server and then forwarded on to any number of intermediary email servers on its way to its destination. Typically your email is deleted from the intermediary servers as soon as it is forwarded to its destination, but there's no guarantee of this -- anyone could be storing and viewing your email for any length of time. For this reason, computer security experts agree that email should not be used to transfer confidential documents.

Approver.com provides a more secure alternative to email for a number of reasons:

• With Approver.com, documents you create or upload are only accessible to you until you invite others to review them.
• No one can access your documents on Approver.com without logging in with a user name and password. (If you choose to publish a document to the web, anyone may access your document, but this takes place only at your option.)
• You have the ability to easily see who's looked at your document, which isn't possible with email.
• We verify the identity of every Approver.com user by validating each user's email address.
• Once you invite someone to review a document, you have the ability to easily uninvite them (in case you invited someone by accident, for example). This kind of common error is not undoable with email. If you've ever seen a sensitive corporate document accidentally forwarded to a large company mailing list (as we have), you'll appreciate this feature.
• If you permit reviewers to edit your document, Approver.com alerts you that your document has been changed, when, and by whom. If you've ever negotiated a contract by sending it around in email, you know how easy it is for a malicious or careless party to make critical changes to the document without other parties knowing about it.
